Arts Activities at ALA Annual 2009

Please make room on your Conference schedule for these Section activities:

All Committees Meeting: Saturday, July 11, 8:00-10:00 am, Sheraton Chicago BR 1
If you’re not a member of a Section committee but you’d like to find out how to get involved, come to the All Committees meeting and jump right in.  Newcomers are always welcome!

Arts Discussion Forum: Saturday, July 11, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, Intercontinental Hotel, Toledo Room
In lieu of our usual presentations by Section members, we are holding a special open discussion: Arts: The Next 50 Years.  Where are we headed as a section?  As arts librarians?  Where should we focus our energies in uncertain times?  Any issues from the current (the future of BHA?) to the more remote (virtual conferences?) are fair game, but this discussion is for you.  Please come and tell us what’s on your mind.

Film & Broadcast Librarians Discussion Group: Saturday, July 11, 1:30-3:00 pm, Sheraton Chicago, Columbus Room

Dance Librarians Discussion Group: Saturday, July 11, 3:30-5:30 pm, Sheraton Chicago, Parlor C

Executive & General Membership Meeting: Sunday, July 12, 10:30 am – 12:00 pm, Sheraton Chicago, Ontario Room

More Than Paper: The Small Press and the Artist’s Book: Program, Sunday, July 12, 1:30-3:00 pm, Hyatt Regency McCormick  Hotel, Conference Center Room 23
Our program will focus on three primary aspects of the Book Arts: the aesthetic elements involved in production, distribution and sale of fine letterpress books and other materials and their artistic and cultural value as objects, the cultural and historical significance of small press publications in the realm of literature, and the role libraries must play in preserving these resources, and promoting their availability for scholars and laymen alike.

Arts 50th Anniversary Reception: Sunday, July 12, 3:00-5:00 pm, Hyatt Regency McCormick  Hotel, Pullman Room
See the invitation posted below.  Please come help us celebrate our first 50 years!

Attend virtually!
Whether you’ll be in Chicago or not, follow this blog July 10-13 for postings from the conference.  If you Twitter, follow and post using tags #ala2009 for the Conference and #acrlarts for the Arts Section.  Also check out our Facebook page for Conference information.
