About the Dance Librarians Discussion Group

The charge of the Dance Librarians Discussion Group is: To provide a forum for the discussion of dance librarianship issues and networking of dance library professionals.

We have maintained a listserv for many years, but we hope to get the conversation going in this new space provided on the ACRL Arts Section Blog and to broaden the scope of participation even more widely than before.

Look for some blog posts in the very near future and please consider adding this new DLDG site to your RSS feeds.

  1. Hello, I’d like to know who has kept vs. withdrawn their Dance on Disc cd-rom format? I understand it Dance on Disc ceased in 2004, and all of the indexed material was put into WorldCat, including article citations.
I’m debating whether or not to w/draw our cdrom version since the materials should be available in World Cat.

  2. Hello, DLDG! I just started the MSLIS program at Syracuse University, after a twenty-five year career as a dancer. I know the field of dance librarianship is small, but I’d love to be able to work in the field someday. If anyone has any advice on what skills to get in library school, good places for internships (I’m hoping to get to the NYPL next summer), general words of wisdom, etc, I’d love to chat! (Maybe I should post this comment somewhere else, though. Looks like this page is less active than others.)

  3. Greetings to the Dance Librarian Group. I am quite excited to find your website. I have been harboring the feeling that something like this was out here, but it’s great to finally discover it. I am in my third semester at Emporia State University’s Denver Library & Information Science program. I love dance, and I am seeking ways to merge my studies with dance. I am also interested in learning more about the avenues to and existence of dance libraries and their librarians. Any information anyone can give me would be most greatly appreciated. I think I largely want just to begin some dialogue with people in this field which speaks so strongly to me. I hope to receive some replies, and would also like to ask specifically how to be on the blog. (I’ll play with it some more, but so far have not got it figured out. I will also be spending more time reading through the website.

    Thank you, Lisa Woopd

    Best regards
